CAMDEN – Clyde Melvin Brown, 92, died Friday, May 30, 2008, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport, after a brief illness. Born Aug. 6, 1915, in Lincolnville, he was the son of Tyleston H. and Eva (Couture) Brown. He was a 1933 graduate of Camden High School and married Merle Jellison in 1953. Mr. Brown worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years, retiring in 1979. He had been employed with Thomas Dicenzo Construction Co., H. E. Sargent Co., J. R. Chianchette and Cianbro, Pittsfield. A self-taught machinist, Clyde very much enjoyed working on projects with his metal turning lathe. His most passionate hobby was his 1912 Brush automobile, which he proudly drove in local parades and around town. He had restored several antique automobiles, including a 1913 Metz. Brown was a member of King David’s Masonic Lodge, St. Paul’s Masonic Lodge and Mid-Coast Shrine Club. He was also a member of Owls Head Transportation Museum. Surviving are his nephews and niece, George Brown and his wife, Deanne, Julia Libby and her husband, Gerry, all of Lincolnville, Melvin Brown and his wife, Margaret, of Orrington and Edwin Brown and his wife, Debra Jo, of Hampden; several great-nephews and great-nieces. He was predeceased by his wife, Merle Brown in 2000. A Masonic graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Hosmer Pond Road, Camden. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to King David’s Masonic Lodge, Camden First Aid Association, P.O. Box 368, Camden, ME 04843 or Owls Head Transportation Museum. Arrangements are with Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden.
