MACHIASPORT and MACHIAS – Connie Wood passed away to be with the Lord Dec. 15, 2006, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family in her home. She was born April 22, 1936, in Machias, the daughter of Beatrice Hatt Huntley, but lived with her loving grandparents, Herbert and Alberta Hatt. Connie worked as a dietary manager at Down East Community Hospital for more than 35 years. After retirement, she enjoyed going lobster fishing with her husband on their lobster boat named the 4-daughters. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family and she loved knitting as a favorite pastime. She is survived by her loving husband, Gleason Wood; and their four daughters, Kathy Jo Bryce and her husband, Thomas, of Sudlersville, Md., Darlene Grossnickle and her husband, Gary, of Westminster, Mass., Annette Armstrong and her husband, Larry, of West Kennebec, and Vicki Bessette and her husband, Raymond, of Dedham. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Jason Grant, Travis Grossnickle, Nichole Grossnickle Curley, Mandy Armstrong Holland, Brandy Armstrong Wood, Desiree Armstrong, Tyler and Raymond Bessette, Thomas and Paige Bryce; and two great-grandchildren, Katelynn and Brandon Holland. She was predeceased by two daughters, Kathy Sue and Rosemarie. Special thoughts to Connie’s numerous brothers and sisters. The family would like to give special thanks to Paul and Winnie Dodge of Machiasport for their constant support and prayers and also to the members of Larrabee Baptist Church.
