CARIBOU and LIMESTONE Dale Frederick Weatherhead, 61, died peacefully Oct. 17, 2007, in Caribou, after a long illness. He was born May 7, 1946, in Limestone, the son of Verne and Ethel (Cyr) Weatherhead. Mr. Weatherhead loved farming, tractors and horses. He grew up and worked on his family’s potato farm in Limestone before moving to Caribou in 1971, to begin his own farming career, where he continued farming for more than 20 years. In the early 1980s, after a fact-finding tour of California’s Salinas Valley, he planted one of the first broccoli crops in Aroostook County. He was involved in area Lions Clubs for several years, and was a former member of Limestone Volunteer Fire Department. Along with several members of his family, he raised Seeing Eye dogs on behalf of the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind. He will be fondly remembered for his wit, sense of humor and love of children, particularly his six grandchildren. Mr. Weatherhead was pre-deceased by his wife of 41 years, Janita (Pelletier) Weatherhead, in 2005; his parents, Verne and Ethel Weatherhead, in 2000 and 1961, respectively; his brother, Vernon Weatherhead, in 1971; and his stepmother, Althea Weatherhead, in 2005. He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Ethel and John Kinney, Debra and Dale St. Peter, and Lynn and Timothy Greenier, all of Caribou; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sarah Weatherhead, of Newton, Mass.; his sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Fred Griffeth of Limestone; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Franklin Weatherhead of Caribou and Kit Weatherhead of Woodland, James and Kathy Weatherhead, and Scott and Judi Weatherhead of Limestone; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Weatherhead will be sadly missed by his beloved grandchildren, Derick and Daniel St. Peter, Erin and Lucas Kinney, and Sarae and Halle Greenier. Friends may call 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Mockler Funeral Home with Father David Cote officiating. Interment will be at St. Louis Cemetery, Limestone.
