HAMPDEN – David A. Gilbert Sr., 54, husband of Roberta J. (Hutchings) Gilbert, died March 20, 2006, at a Brewer healthcare center. He was born May 17, 1951, in Bangor, the son of Clarence T. and Ellen E. (Simpson) Gilbert. David was a member of the Kenduskeag Lodge No. 137, AF & AM and was a member of the Anah Temple Shrine where he was known as “Bingo” in the clown unit. He was a member, past president and held various offices with the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3177, Brewer. David enjoyed camping and loved to make children smile. He is survived by his wife, one son, David A. Gilbert Jr. and his wife, Linette; one daughter, Michelle L. Copperthwaite and her husband, Corey; a surrogate son, Chad Buzzell and his wife, Michelle; two stepsons, Joseph Rowe and Donald Rowe; six grandchildren, Tasha, Genelle, Haley, Lucas, Micah, Samuel; two brothers, James Gilbert and his wife, Audrey, and Kenneth Gilbert and his wife, Patricia; a sister-in-law, Sandra Gilbert; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother, Edward Gilbert; three nieces, Sherri, Terri Lynn and Shauna Jean; and his dog, Sugar Bear. He will be missed by his dog, Dusty. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Brewer Eagles Club, 22 Atlantic Ave., Brewer, with the officers of the Eagles Club and the Kenduskeag Lodge, presiding. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a cancer research foundation of choice. Arrangements by Cremation Basics, Inc., Bangor.
