FORT KENT – Gertrude (Thibodeau) Marquis, 88, died March 21, 2006, at a Fort Kent healthcare facility. She was born Aug. 26, 1917, in Fort Kent, the daughter of Paul and Mary Alice “Mamie” (Nadeau) Thibodeau. Gertrude was a loving wife and mother. Her primary focus was her family and she also found the time to play bridge, golf, read, complete her daily crossword puzzle, and fill her home with music by playing the piano. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was a member of the Fort Kent Hospital Guild, and volunteered her time at the Fort Kent Public Library. She is survived by five children, Romeo Jr. and his wife, Claudette, of Worchester, Mass., Joel and Cathy of Gorham, Claire Marquis and her husband, Bob, of Madawaska, John of Bay Shore, N.Y., Fran Marquis and her partner, Robin Manson, of Brunswick; her daughter-in-law, Reberta Marquis of Fort Kent; one brother, Wilfred Thibodeau of South Portland; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to both her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Romeo Marquis in 1997; her son, Phil in 1989; one grandson, Brian Marquis in 1978; two sisters, Sister Pauline SMJ “Juliette” and Bernice Collin; five brothers, Romeo, Fr. Norman “Ludger,” Phil, Claude and Omer Thibodeau. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday until time of service, at the Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Spring burial will be in the parish cemetery May 11. In lieu of flowers, those who wish in his memory may donate to the Fort Kent Public Library, 1 Monument Square, Fort Kent, ME 04743 or to the Northern Maine Medical Center Cardiac Fund, 194 East Main St., Fort Kent, ME 04743.
