HERMON – Gladys R. Ormsby Butler, 86, passed away with her loving family at her side March 20, 2006, at a local hospital. She was born March 29, 1919, in Palmyra, the daughter of Frank and Addie (Davis) Raymond. Gladys graduated from MCI in Pittsfield and Beal College with a degree in business. She owned and operated, with her late husband, Edward C. Butler, Butler’s Market, Garage and Auto Sales in Hermon, which is still in operation today by the family as Butler’s Garage and Auto Sales. She worked at various local businesses retiring in 2003, at the age of 84, from C&K Variety in Hermon. She was proud of her work ethic and cherished her time with the public. She loved animals, visitors and spending time with family, especially grandchildren. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing, country music and horse racing. As the matriarch of the family she is survived by her six children, Larry Ormsby and his friend, Dawn, of Florida, Brian Ormsby and his wife, Reba, of Arizona, Edward Butler Jr. and his wife, Angie, of Levant, Gladys Knowles and her husband, Barry, of Hermon, Frank Butler and his friend, Ahmed, of Florida, Rosemary Bartlett and her hus-band, Richard, of Hermon; 25 grandchildren, 30 great-grand-children, one great-great-granddaughter, one niece and one nephew. In addition to her parents and her second husband, she was predeceased by a son, Raymond and his wife, Patricia; and two sisters, Audrey White and Myrtle Nolan. Gladys was very appreciative of her friends and special care givers. The family thanks St. Joseph’s Hospital for all the wonderful care and support. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Stephen Nute officiating. The family invites relatives and friends for conversation and refreshments after the services Saturday to the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor. Spring interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hermon.
