BANGOR – David Bar Macbee Rosenblatt died April 21, 2006, at a Bangor healthcare facility after a long illness. David was born April 25, 1918, in New York City, the son of Bernard Abraham Rosenblatt and Gertrude (Goldsmith) Rosenblatt. In 1926, David traveled with his parents to Palestine. He lived in Haifa with his parents and his brother, Jonathan, until 1938. David’s love for Haifa and for Israel never faded. He lived there again with his young family from 1949 until 1951, and he returned there often. In 1938, David went to London to attend the Imperial College of Science. He later returned to New York City to attend New York University, where he received first a bachelor’s degree and then a master’s degree in physics. It was in a public speaking class at New York University where he met Carol Magnes Blumenthal, to whom he was married on Dec. 27, 1942. David received the first Ph.D. in physics awarded by the Israel Institute of Technology and was a member of the American Physical Society and the American Nuclear Society. He worked for many years as a physicist at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island and at the Pittman-Dunn Laboratory at the United States Army’s Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia. When David retired in 1976, he was the director of Pittman-Dunn Laboratory. David moved to Bangor in 1995. David’s interest in physics was matched by his interest in world history and geography, and his wide range of knowledge and his enthusiasm for travel and life-long learning helped shape the lives of his children and grandchildren. In addition to his beloved wife, Carol; David is survived by four children, Lionel Rosenblatt of Washington, D.C., Sarah (Rosenblatt) Jackson of Bangor, Josiah Rosenblatt of Paris, France, and Nathaniel Rosenblatt of Bangor. David is also survived by his brother, Jonathan Rosenblatt of Palm City, Fla.; by his four grandchildren, Jessica Rosenblatt, Benjamin Jackson, Alexander Rosenblatt, and Elias Rosenblatt; and by his many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
