STETSON – David “Hammer” Merrill, 46, died unexpectedly Dec. 11, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Aug. 28, 1960, in Madrid, Spain, the son of Ralph N. and Carol (Bland) Merrill. He attended Stetson schools and was a graduate of Central High School, East Corinth, Class of 1980. For more than 20 years David had been employed in the warehouse at Born Shoe formally Dexter Shoe, Dexter. David was a member of the Maine Sled Dog Club and was looking forward to his first CANAM sled dog race in Fort Kent. He was a member of the Sebasticook Valley Snowmobile Club, Newport and a member of two bowling teams at the Newport Entertainment Center. He was an avid sportsman enjoying all sports including horseshoes, softball and was also an avid NASCAR fan. David was very outgoing and friendly and had friends all over the country. He is survived by his father and mother, Ralph and Carol Merrill of Stetson; his life mate, Janet Heal of Stetson; two daughters, Wendy Strout of Garland and Peggy Black and her husband, Chuck, of Corinna; two brothers, Richard L. Merrill of Sullivan and Dale A. Merrill and his special friend, Brenda Crocker, of Stetson; five grandchildren, Tyler and Tiffany Black of Corinna, Samantha, Chase and Emily Strout of Garland, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport. Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at Clark’s Hill Cemetery, Stetson, with Pastor Al Worden officiating.
