STONINGTON, Conn. – Donald Henry MacGregor, 90, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Mariner Health at Pendleton in Mystic, Conn. where he had been a resident for only a short time. He was born Feb. 11, 1916, in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of James and Evelyn T. Austin MacGregor. Throughout his life, he resided in Fairfield and New Britain, Conn., Bangor, and recently, Stonington, Conn. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He married the love of his life, Margaret Larancy, July 16, 1938, in Elkton, Md. Sadly for everyone, she predeceased him only this past May 17, 2006, after 67 years of marriage. Donald worked as a furniture buyer and store manager for more than 42 years, 32 of those years of service with Nothnagles Furniture of Bridgeport, Conn. In his youth, he attended Roberts College in Istanbull, Turkey and Carlton College, Seminary, in Northfield, Minn. Always active in his community, he was a member of the Bridgeport Rotary, past president of the Stratfield Men’s Club and a former Republican Town Committee member in the town of Fairfield, Conn. He was a founder of the Fairfield Methodist Church and an active member there for many years. Donald, an avid golfer, bowler and sports fan, gave countless volunteer hours to youth and sports programs. He is survived by his and Margaret’s children and their spouses, a son, Donald Bruce and Christine MacGregor of Bangor; daughter, Bonnie Jean and John Larkin of Stonington, Conn.; one sister, Miriam Treadwell of Wallingford, Conn.; six grandchildren, Betsy Webb of Bangor, David MacGregor of Azusa, Calif., J. Scott Larkin of Rocky Hill, Conn., Jill St. Peter of Ellsworth, Kathleen McAneany of Madison, Conn. and James Larkin of Haddam, Conn.; and 12 great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic, Conn., closing with a brief prayer service 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
