YARMOUTH – Doris I. O’Brien-Morrill, 79, died unexpectedly Thursday evening Dec. 20, 2007, in Portland. She was born April 4, 1928, in Madison, the daughter of Grace (Webber) and Ellery Sloat. She was educated in Freeport schools. At various times Doris worked as a sales person, waitress, owned her own restaurant, Top of the Mornin’, Yarmouth and for a brief time, a children’s clothing store also in Yarmouth. Doris was a member of Church of the Nazarene, Yarmouth, the American Legion Auxiliary and helped with the Meals on Wheels program for many years. She readily gave of herself to family, friends and the community. If she thought of something nice to do for others, she did it. Doris kept herself busy and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, crossword puzzles, reading and writing poetry. Never at a loss for words, she was better able to express herself in writing. She was also a great cook with a talent for presentation and the gift of hospitality. It was important to Doris to make all feel welcomed and valued. Doris will be remembered for her exceptional devotion to her family and husband, a woman who was fun loving and a jokester. She was a classy woman who had a sense of style, enjoyed nice clothes and her signature was scarves. She loved her grandchildren, not only with a hug, but also with a genuine interest in everything that affected their special and unique lives. Most of all, Doris will be remembered for her vibrancy, love of life and living in the moment. Sunshine entered the room when she was around. She is survived by her husband of seven years, Robert Morrill of Yarmouth; her children, Gail MacMullen of Portland, Susan MacMullen of Alfred, Kelly Parker and her husband, Gary, of Baltimore, Gordon MacMullen and his wife, Elizabeth, of Brunswick, Rosemary Moulton and her husband, Harold, of Yarmouth, Dennis O’Brien of North Yarmouth; stepdaughters, Cynthia Gallant of Jackman, Susan Keltner and her husband, Bill, of Shirley; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a time of gathering and consolation for family and friends noon-2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, with a memorial service 2 p.m. at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, with the Rev. Steve Nute officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Yarmouth, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Doris’ memory to Yarmouth Fire & Rescue, 176 North Road, Yarmouth, ME 04096. Doris’ family has created a memorial of her life and it is available at www.mem.com. Please visit Doris’ memorial and share your condolences, memories and wishes with her family.
