PEPPERELL, Mass. – Doris Pearle (Briggs) Philbrook, 84, died Dec. 4, 2003, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She was born June 10, 1919, in Mars Hill, the daughter of the late Earl and Amber (Hawksley) Briggs, and was the wife of the late Merle Philbrook who died in 1982. Mrs. Philbrook had been a longtime resident of the Washburn and Woodland areas and was a graduate of Caribou High School, Class of 1936. She had been a resident of Ayer, Mass., since 1966 and had been employed at the former New England Apple Products of Littleton, Mass., now known as Verifine Products Inc., and later had been employed as a secretary at Carlson Orchards, Harvard, Mass. For the past year and a half she had been a resident of Pepperell. Mrs. Philbrook was an active longtime member of the first Baptist Church of Groton. She enjoyed Tole painting and glasswork and was a member of a quilting club. She also was involved in the Pepperell Sr. Center. She is survived by her children, Darrell Philbrook of Crouseville, Jeri Lee of Noel, Mo., Merle Philbrook of Lantana, Fla., Juanita R. Herrick of Warsaw, Mo., Kempton F. Philbrook of Lyndeborough, N.H. and Samuel E. Philbrook of Berlin, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Groton, Main St., Groton, Mass. Visiting hours are 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St., Groton. Burial will be in Riverside Extension Cemetery, Washburn, at a time to be announced.
