SOUTH PORTLAND – Dorothy G. Clarke, 78, of Hillcrest Avenue, died Sunday, July 1, 2007, at a Portland Hospital. Mrs. Clarke was born in Philadelphia, a daughter of Malcolm Whiting and Lilly Viola Faulkenstrom Graves. She was educated in Philadelphia schools and graduated from Gilman High School, Northeast Harbor, Class of 1948. Dorothy was a past member of the First Congregational Church, South Portland, where she was very active in the church. She was a past president of the Ladies Guild and worked on the church Holly Daze Bazaar for many years. Dottie worked for the South Portland School Department for 12 years, as a traveling clerk and at South Portland Housing Authority for 14 years, retiring as director of tenant services. She was a member of the Val Halla Country Club, Cumberland and the Southern Maine Women’s Golf Association. Dottie was an avid golfer. Her hobbies included knitting and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving is her husband of 57 years, Raymond M. “Jack” Clarke of South Portland; three children, Suzanne Elaine Clarke Greenleaf and her husband, Stephen, of Pinehurst, N.C., Thomas Milo Clarke and his wife, Jill, of South Portland and Robert Stephen Clarke and wife, Kathleen, of Falmouth; a sister, Nancy Elaine Graves Trask of Old Saybrook, Conn.; three brothers, Robert Malcolm Graves of Northeast Harbor, Malcolm Whiting Graves Jr. of Lisbon, Conn., and Richard Edward Graves of Trenton; grandchildren, Nathan Geyerhahn and wife, Dana, Matthew S. Greenleaf, Hannah Marie Clarke, Lauren Ashley Clarke, Melissa Clarke Vasconcelos and husband, Tavo, Jennifer Clarke Underwood and husband, Michael; and great-granddaughters, Gabriela and Lydia Vasconcelos. Dottie’s family gives special thanks to the caregivers at Maine Center for Cancer Medicine for all of their kindness at their time of need. Visiting hours will be 1-3 p.m. Friday at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Maine Cancer Research, 970 Baxter Blvd., Portland, ME 04103.
