BREMEN – Douglas A. Wood, 62, died Sunday morning, Aug. 21, 2005, at his Waldoboro Road home. He was born March 15, 1943, in Hartford, Conn., a son of the late L. Allan and Cathryn Y. (Nutter) Wood. Doug was a graduate of Winterport High School in Winterport, Class of 1962. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electrician from 1962-1966. On May 8, 1965, he married the former Janice G. Garland, in Presque Isle. They moved to the community in 1966 when Doug began working at Sylvania. For four years, Doug worked with S.F. Prentice and Son of Bristol Mills where he began his electrical career prior to going into business himself starting Wood’s Electric. For the past several years he worked as head of maintenance for S.A.D. No. 40. Over the years, Doug faithfully served his community. Doug was a firefighter with Waldoboro Fire Department and was a founding member of the Waldoboro Ambulance Service in 1969 and served as director 1986-1989. In 1984, with his wife and daughters they formed the Wood Crew serving on-call together for Waldoboro Ambulance. He was a member of the Bremen Fire Department and served as fire chief several times. He was a member of Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service in Damariscotta and established the First Responders in Bremen. In January 1995, Doug realized his life’s passion when he earned his certification as a paramedic. Doug served the Lord with gladness, and was active in many Lay Witness Missions and Tres Dias. From 2002- 2004, he was a deacon with Lincoln County Assembly of God and in 2003 along with his wife served on a mission trip to Paraguay. He enjoyed mackerel fishing, camping, family picnic and overnights on local islands. In addition to his wife of more than 40 years of Bremen, Doug is survived by two daughters, Leslie Wood and her husband, Steve Hinshaw, of Sitka, Alaska, and Laurie Chapman and her husband, Jason, of Washington; two sons, Douglas Wood and his wife, Angela, of Bremen, and Timothy Wood and his wife, Jodi, of Jefferson; 12 grandchildren, Alyssa, Boone, Zimry, Rachel, Hayden, Logan, Luke, Zoe, Cole, Amber Rose, Cody, Kyleigh; brother, Peter Wood and his wife, Mary, of Yarmouth; in-laws, Fernald and Hazel Garland of East Chapman; an aunt, Nan Snow and her husband, Bud, of New London, N.H.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Doug preceded in death by his parents. Relatives and friends may call on the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at the Lincoln County Assembly of God, Business Route One, Damariscotta. A funeral will conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at the First Baptist Church of Waldoboro, Grace Avenue, (north of Moody’s Diner on Route One) Waldoboro. Pastor Tom Wagers will officiate. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Route 32, Bremen. Arrangements are under the direction of Coast of Maine Cremation and Funeral Service, Waldoboro.
