PORTLAND – Douglas Paul Ray, 54, of 208 Maple St., Bangor, died Saturday morning March 3, 2007, at Maine Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Douglas was born April 12, 1952, in Lewiston, son of Adrienne V. and Ernest Stanley Ray of Auburn and later of Minot. Douglas met the love of his life, Ilise Kaufman and they were married Dec. 18, 1994. Douglas was a graduate of Edward Little High School, Auburn, Class of 1972, and attended the Boston School of Art. He belonged to the Bangor Art Society. Painting was his passion, especially flowers, wilderness and small animals. He was well known in the Bangor area as a self-employed residential painter. Douglas also loved to make people laugh, taking pictures, fishing, kayaking and hiking with his four-legged sidekick, Baxter. Douglas leaves four brothers, one sister and their spouses, Ernest A. and Rita Ray of Poland Spring, Robert B. and Linda Ray of Manchester, Richard T. and Maida Ray of Minot and Kenneth S. and Allyson Ray of Cumberland Foreside, and his sister, Shirley A. (Ray) and David Everhart of Monmouth. He is also survived by six nieces, 10 nephews, eight great-nieces and four great-nephews. Douglas was predeceased by his lovely wife, wonderful parents and two beautiful nieces, Tina Ann Ray Drumtra and Dara Kaufman. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at The Fortin Group/Plummer & Merrill Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 217 Turner St., Auburn, where a funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Interment will take place in the spring in the family lot at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
