CAPE ELIZABETH – Dr. Marvin C. Adams, 79, passed away peacefully Jan. 4, 2008, surrounded by his beloved family at his home. Born July 30, 1928, in Bangor. He was the son of Dr. Asa C. Adams and Vina (Parent) Adams of Orono. He graduated from New Hampton School, New Hampshire, completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Maine and professional studies at the University of Ver-mont Medical School. He completed his internship at Maine Medical Center before serving his country as first lieutenant in the U.S. Navy at Brunswick Naval Air Station as a base physician. After a year of surgical residency at Maine Medical Center, he completed an ENT residency at SUNY, Syracuse, N.Y. Marvin maintained a practice in Ear, Nose and Throat medicine in Portland for 30 years, retiring in 1990. Marvin loved practicing medicine, where he was proud to be able to restore hearing to many and was successful in treating many with head and neck cancers. His considered his biggest contribution and accomplishment to be the collaboration with Dr. Carl Brinkman in performing pituitary surgery. He especially loved and appreciated all of his nurses, both as a physician and later as a patient. Marvin settled in Cape Elizabeth, where he and Glenna raised their family close to the ocean he so loved. The essence of Marvin is captured in the following words, Doctor, surgeon, ocean sailor, adventurer, musician, loving husband and father, grandfather, great-grand-father, lover of mountains, skiing, storyteller, poet, friend, brother and mentor. Our dad was a man who saw God and every miracle of the universe in the beauty of nature, whether in the crest of a wave, on top of a mountain or under a microscope. Marvin is survived by the love of his life, Glenna (Billings) Adams. They celebrated their 60th anniversary last summer. Surviving are their four children, April V. Adams and her partner, Dana Mc-Eacharn, of Machias, Victoria A. Lindquist and her husband, Eric, of Augusta, Susan E. Adams of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Stephen A. Adams and his wife, Caitlin, of Denmark. Mar-vin leaves four grandchildren, Aludra McLaughlin and her partner, Venetia Hall, Libby Lindquist, Matthew Lindquist and his fiance, Jessica Soule, and Eric Adams; and one great-grandchild, Jennifer Adams. Also surviving are his brother, David L. Adams and his wife, Pamela; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visit with family 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, with services planned 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, Shore Road, Cape Elizabeth.
