NEWPORT – Dudley Thomas Curry, 72, died peacefully July 5, 2005, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor, following a long illness. He was born in New Market, Ala., Dec. 16, 1932, the son of Archie and Golda (Fulgham) Curry. He was educated in Alabama schools. Dudley was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force. While stationed at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor he met and married Dorene B. Burke, Sept. 14, 1957 in Newport. “Dud” was an electrician by trade and worked for many years at Allen Electric in Hampden retiring in 1990 due to ill health. He was a long time member of the Newport Fire Department. He enjoyed the out doors especially hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed spending time with his sons, and while they were growing up he volunteered as a Cub Scout leader and a Little League coach for several years. He was a member of the Meridian Splendor Masonic Lodge of Newport and a member of the Nokomis Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Newport. He served as master of Meridian Splendor and as Worthy Patron of Nokomis Chapter both at the same time. He was a former member of St. Omer Commandery and Anah Shrine. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorene B. Curry of Newport; three sons, Robert Curry and his wife, Mary, of Etna, Michael Curry and his friend, Denise, of Newport, Terry Curry and his wife, Gail, of Plymouth; a stepbrother and his wife, Wayne and Bobbie Walker of Alabama; a stepsister-in-law, Regina Walker of Alabama; five grandchildren, Ryan, Nichole, Ethan, Seth, and Kya; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call 2-3 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2005, at the Brown Funeral Home, 34 High St., Newport. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2005 at the Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Al Worden officiating.
