CARMEL – Earle Edward McSorley, 80, died April 16, 2006, at his home in Carmel. He was born Aug. 7, 1925, in Ripley, the son of Earle Everett and Dorothy (Harmon) McSorley Boyington. Earle was the owner and operator of McSorley’s Construction Co. of Carmel for many years. He was a former town selectman, plowed and maintained the town roads for many years. Earle was a member of the Carmel Fire Department and Ambulance Service and was the recipient of the keys to the first ambulance donated to the town. Earle was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and served for many years as commander of the Etna/Carmel American Legion Post No. 107, and was presented with a lifetime membership. He was a member of the Benevolent Lodge No, 87, AF & AM of Carmel, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory 32nd Degree, and Anah Shriners. He enjoyed racing stock cars, both on the dirt and asphalt track, was an avid NASCAR fan and raced horses. He founded the McSorley Orchestra and he and his wife, Glennis, enjoyed playing for area dances. He was a former member of the Newburgh Grange, the CB Radio Club, and the Carmel Snowmobile Club. Surviving are his wife, Glennis (Day) McSorley of Carmel; two daughters, Beth Doughty and her husband, Wayne, of Hermon and Toby Pelletier and her husband, Joseph, of Carmel; five grandchildren, Shayne Doughty and his wife, Renea, of Warren, Liza Doughty and her fiance, Jeremy Muth, both of Bangor, twin grandsons, Eion Pelletier and his wife, Angie, of Carmel, Eric Pelletier of Hermon, and Emma Pelletier of Carmel; four great-grandchildren, Derek, Kelsey, Gabrielle and Caleb; three sisters, Charlene Morse and her husband, Larry, of Hampden, Marilyn Campbell and her companion, Harry Hoskins, of Newburgh and Brenda McCown and her companion, Ed Lord, of Howland; half brother, Larry McSorley and his wife, Martha, of Bangor; a sister-in-law, Joan McSorley of Connecticut; several nieces and nephews; a special longtime friend and coworker, Gerald Richardson of Plymouth; and his best friend his cat, Dusty. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his stepfather, and one brother, Wendell McSorley. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor where friends are invited to attend a Masonic Memorial Service 7:30 p.m. conducted by officers and members of the Benevolent Lodge AF & AM of Carmel. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Brookings-Smith with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson chaplain of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office officiating. Interment with military honors will be conducted by the Etna/ Carmel American Legion in the Highland Cemetery, Carmel.
