LIMESTONE – Edister A. Brogdon, 75, husband of Betty Brogdon, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility, after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 11, 1931, in Manning, S.C., the son of Willy and Essie (Hatfield) Brogdon. He was a graduate of the Manning, S.C., school system and attended the University of Maine – Presque Isle. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1973, serving in the Korean War, attaining the rank of staff sergeant and was married to Betty Backus, June 7, 1958. He had been a resident of Limestone since 1963, when he was stationed at the former Loring Air Force Base. He was a member of the former Loring Prince Hall Masonic Lodge, where he was raised to the degree of Master Mason and had held the office of treasurer. After his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Brogdon had been employed by Columbia Forest Products for more than 28 years. In addition to his parents, Edister was predeceased by one brother, Nathaniel Brogdon. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mrs. Betty (Backus) Brogdon of Limestone; one son, Edister Vandora Brodgon and his wife, Chesla, of Peoria, Ariz.; two daughters, Odetta Canady of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Gerlanda Brodgon Mayes of Norfolk, Va.; three brothers, Harold Brogdon of Marion, S.C., Albert and Lincoln Brodgon, both of Cambria Heights, N.Y.; two sisters, Hermine Brodgon and Irma Frierson, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Amuzzini and the Rev. Charlie Campbell co-officiating. Interment will take place at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Caribou, immediately after the funeral service.
