LIMESTONE and VAN BUREN – Edna M. Parent, 93, wife of the late Daniel J. Parent passed away Monday morning, Feb. 20, 2006, at a Van Buren nursing facility, surrounded by the people she loved, following a brief illness. She was born June 9, 1912, in Drummond, N.B., Canada, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Bourgion) Desjardins. Edna was educated in the Drummond and Grand Falls, N.B. school system and was married to Daniel J. Parent June 15, 1937. She had become a resident of Limestone in 1943 and was a communicant of the St. Louis Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She had been employed as a cook with the Limestone school department, Damon School, Loring Air Force Base and Dining Hall, Loring Air Force Base. Edna loved to knit, crochet and play cards and had spent seven winters in Daytona Beach, Fla. and became a resident of the Borderview Rehab and Living Center, Van Buren in 1997, where she developed a loving relationship with her caregivers. She will forever be remembered as “Nanna Cookies” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as a visit to her home would always include her homemade sweets. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Parent was predeceased by her husband, Daniel J. Parent Aug. 24, 1996; one great-granddaughter, Holly Ann Clancey; and by 11 siblings. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Charles Green of Prattville, Ala., Charlene and Karl Notz of Kingston, Tenn., Rena and David Leighton of Limestone; one brother, Jules Desjardins and his wife, Anne, of Niagara Falls, Ontario; one sister, Marie Poitras of Grand Falls, N.B.; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews. In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Louis Catholic Church, Limestone, followed by interment at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Hamlin, at a date and time to be announced later in the spring.
