BLUE HILL – Edward “Carl” Charles Wieland, 87, died Feb. 26, 2005, at the Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 18, 1917, in Evansville, Ind., the son of Henry and Birdie (Porter) Wieland. He attended Indiana University and was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity. He played both basketball and football in college. After attending college he earned his MBA at the Wharton School of Business. Thereafter, Carl enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. He was a Lieutenant Commander stationed in San Diego where he served as a supply officer on various ships. From the Navy he began working for IBM. He led a successful career as a marketing and sales executive, traveling throughout the world. When he retired in 1984 he was the Director of Marketing, World Trade Division. He was an avid fisherman. He fished at East Grand Lake in Danforth for many years. In addition to being an avid fisherman he was an accomplished equestrian. He rode in Maryland and Connecticut for more than 30 years. He loved animals and had a passion for cards. Carl had been active in the Blue Hill Congregational UCC Church. Carl is survived by his son, Eric Wieland and wife, Katherine, of Sturbridge, Mass., Dirk Wieland and wife, Jennifer, of Ridgefield, Conn.; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Christine, Carolyn and Olivia. He was predeceased by his wife Charlotte of 58 years. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, at the Blue Hill Congregational UCC Church Blue Hill, ME.
