ORRINGTON – Edward Joseph Vanidestine Sr., 80, died Oct. 21, 2004, surrounded by his loving family, at a Bangor healthcare facility. He was born Jan. 9, 1924, in Bangor, the son of James and Mary (Morgan) Vanidestine. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. Ed, often called “Barney”, leaves a legacy of love and laughter with 11 children, and the love of his life, Mary of 58 years. His biggest joy was to be with his family, to laugh and joke, and reminisce of days with his sons-in-law. He also enjoyed years of fishing at Moosehead Lake and golfing at a local golf course. He enjoyed his 20 years as a member of the YMCA Heart Rehabilitation Program, volleyball was his favorite activity. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Chapman) Vanidestine of Orrington; children, Edward and his wife, Mary Vanidestine Jr. of Holden, Herbert and his wife, Patricia Vanidestine, of New Hampshire, Millie and her husband, Ray Douglass, of Hermon, Timothy and his wife, Linda Vanidestine, of Orrington, Patricia and her husband, Richard Blanchard, of Carmel, Marie and her husband, Leonard Tracy, of Hermon, Jeffrey and his wife, Joni-Sue Vanidestine, of Orrington, Shirley and her husband, Michael Payer, of Dedham, Barbara and her husband, Dennis Allen, of Orrington, Gerry and Bud Pomroy of Holden, Gwen and her husband, Peter Caron, of Bangor, 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, siblings, John Vanidestine of Bangor, Mildred Dunn of Howland, Peggy Peasley of Bangor, Herbert Vanidestine of Howland. He was predeceased by two brothers, James and Thomas Vanidestine; and one sister, Josephine Norvak. Family and friends are invited to a gathering of remembrance 6-8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share in conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the service.
