ORONO and NEW YORK CITY – Elizabeth Coggill, 85, died Feb. 19, 2007, at an Orono health care facility. She was born March 26, 1921, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Wilmer and Mary (McDonald) Harris. When Elizabeth was about a year old, the family moved to Athens, Ohio, where her father accepted a position as head of the history department at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. She spent her childhood there. After her father’s retirement, he bought a farm in Pataskala, Ohio, near Columbus, Ohio. Elizabeth graduated from Pataskala High School in 1939. After attending Antioch College, Xenia, Ohio, she moved to New York City, where she lived near the United Nations for 60 years. She worked for the Royal Dutch Shell Group in Rockefeller Center as an executive assistant, until her early retirement in 1971. In 1965, she married George Coggill of New York City. They met at the Society of Mayflower Descendants and enjoyed attending gatherings of their many genealogical societies and traveling around England and the United States learning about English and American history. After George’s death in 1988, Elizabeth took a three month trip of the world on the Rotterdam V in 1997. She was a member of the DAR, the Huguenot Society of New York, the New York Society of Mayflower Descendents, the Yale Club of New York and the Women’s National Republican Club of New York City. In 2003, Elizabeth moved to Dirigo Pines, Orono, to be near her sister, Charlotte Treworgy and her family. She is survived by her sister and husband, Charlotte and Harry Treworgy of Orono; a brother, Joseph Harris and his wife, Hilda, of Houston; six nephews, Mark Treworgy and his wife, Toni, of Florida, Dean Treworgy and his wife, Jessica, of Glenburn, Gary Treworgy and his wife, Patty, of Levant, James Harris, Joseph Harris Jr. and David Harris, all of Texas; three greatnieces, Christine Kenerson, Robin Pellerin and Anne Elizabeth Treworgy, all of Levant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial reception 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Kenduskeag Parlor, Dirigo Pines, Orono. Services will be held at a later date at the Chapel of Roseland Park Cemetery, Detroit. A service of Brookings-Smith, LaBeau Chapel, Orono.
