DREW PLT. – Erma L. McKay, 84, wife of the late Donald J. McKay, died Aug. 11, 2005, at a Bangor hospital, after a long and brave battle with cancer. She was born Jan. 2, 1921, in Wytopitlock. Erma graduated as valedictorian from Wytopitlock High School, Class of 1938. She enjoyed nature, animals and the out-of-doors and was a life member of the Wytopitlock Fish and Game Club. She enjoyed her family and her family was her life. She was a very thoughtful person, and no one ever left Erma’s home without having a meal. She is survived by a daughter, Donna Tidd and her husband, Peter, of Belfast; a granddaughter, Deborah Marshall and her husband, Peter, of Purcellville, Va.; a grandson, Donald Tidd and his wife, Jodi, of Farmington, Minn.; two great-grandsons, Dylan Marshall and Nathan Tidd; two sisters-in-law, Lois McKay of Bangor and Dot McKay of Bath; several nieces and nephews. She also leaves dear friends, Terry and Jolene Caron, who were dedicated caregivers to her. In addition to her husband, Donald, who died Jan. 11, 1990; she was predeceased by her father, Leigh J. Patchell; her mother, Eva (Stinson) Patchell Washburn; her stepfather, William Washburn; and her sister, Althea Gilbert. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Drew Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Waite officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
