GOULDSBORO – Etta May Burch went to be with the Lord April 10, 2006. She was born in Berlin, N.Y., one of 11 children of Mary Bonsteel and Frank Crandall. Etta had been part of the Bushirk Volunteer Fireman Auxiliary. Her husband, Harold Ellis Russell, who predeceased her, was fire chief at that time. She and Harold had been married for 32 years when he passed away in 1973. Etta gave generously to many causes such as American Cancer Society, Hospitalized Veterans, Boy’s Town, March of Dimes, Covenant House, and several food pantries. Etta will always be remembered for her quick wit and nonsense attitude. Etta was a loving and devoted mother who raised seven children. She is survived by her seven children, Mary Bumps of Orange City, Fla., Harold Ellis Russell Jr. of Orange City, Fla., Betty Russell Buffum and her husband, John, of Hollywood, Fla., Lee Ann Allan and her husband, Thomas, of Gouldsboro, Barbara Jean Matthais and her husband, Frank, of Salem, S.C., Irene June Akers and her husband, William, of Seneca, S.C., Daniel George Russell of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; a special niece, Katrina Maw of Central, S.C.; and a special nephew, Rusty Matthais of Salem, S.C. Gifts in Etta’s memory may be made to Hospice of Hancock County, 14 McKenzie Ave., Ellsworth, ME 04605. Her ashes will be scattered in West Hoosick, N.Y. at her husband’s gravesite where a short service will be held. Arrangements are by Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
