MILFORD and BRADLEY Eugene R. Marquis, 86, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at a Bangor nursing facility, following a long struggle with COPD. “Gene” was born Nov. 19, 1917, in Old Town, son of the late Amos and Mary Ophelia (Willette) Marquis of Passadumkeag. Gene attended High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1945, serving in the European Theater in World War II. Following the service he married his beloved wife, Mable Yvonne Shorette in February 1945, in Bradley, where they raised their family. Gene spent all of his life locally and worked for 30 years as a mechanic for Knights Auto Sales in Bangor retiring in 1982. He was a faithful communicant and member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bradley, for most of his life. Gene was a dedicated gardener and took great pride in his vegetable gardens and flowers. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish, almost as much as they enjoyed listening to his fishing stories. Gene is survived and will be sadly missed by his three children; daughter, Patricia Jean (Marquis) Cepluch and her husband, Robert F., of Hamilton, Ohio; son, Alan Eugene Marquis and his wife, Patsy Lee of Hudson; son, Ronald Ralph Marquis and his wife, Julie S., of Greenbush; brother, Clement Marquis and his wife, Lillian, of Passadumkeag; eight grandchildren, Brian F. Cepluch, Melissa J. Herkins, Christopher R. Cepluch all of Ohio, Roni E. Marquis of Milford, Melinda-Jo Marquis of Greenbush, Matthew A. Marquis, Adam E. Marquis and Amber Marquis all of Hudson; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife, Ethel Thurston of Old Town. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 30 years, Mable Yvonne Shorette, who died in 1974; three brothers and four sisters. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bradley, with the Rev. Paul Kerns Celebrant. Committal with full Military Honors will be held immediately following the Mass at Evergreen Cemetery in Bradley. Friends and family are invited back to St. Ann’s Parish Hall for a luncheon and continued fellowship following the Burial.
