TRESCOTT – Evangeline (O’Brien) Morrison, 88, a lifelong resident of Trescott and Lubec, died Dec. 5, 2004, at the home of her son, Carl James Morrison in Scarborough. She was born July 9, 1916, in Trescott, the daughter of Walter and Villa (McFadden) O’Brien. She was educated in Trescott and Lubec schools, graduating from Lubec High School in 1934. She attended Curry School in Boston, and at the age of 42, returned to school at Washington State Teachers College, now the University of Maine at Machias, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education. She taught for years in the lower grades in Lubec before retiring to her Bailey’s Mistake home, built by her father in the year she was born, where she lived until moving to Quoddy View Apartments in Lubec two years ago. Evangeline was a member of the Maine retired Teachers Association, and a former member of the Lubec Grange, and Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed the knitting and sewing skills learned from her grandmother, and made many sweaters for underprivileged children. She was an active and accomplished quilter. She had a prized collection of dolls collected over the years. She was predeceased by her husband, James Morrison; and a brother, Alden O’Brien. In addition to her son Carl and his wife, Caroline, she is survived by a sister, Mildred Gaines and her husband, Albert, of Fairport, N.Y; two sisters-in law, Ellen O’Brien of Lubec, and Bernice Morrison of Cutler; grandchildren, Kristen Morrison of Westbrook, Mary Evangeline Morrison of San Francisco, Calif., and Peter Morrison of Portland, currently serving in Mosul, Iraq; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also will be fondly remembered by many, many, friends. Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at the West Lubec Methodist Church with Pastor Dale Hupp officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Lubec.
