ORLAND – Evelyn Barker Churchill passed away peacefully Jan. 31, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Nov. 6, 1908, in Burlington, to Fay and Blanche (Porter) Barker. She attended Howland High School and Beals College, Bangor. In 1931 she married Neil E. Churchill and moved to Orland, where she spent her life. She was the recipient of the Boston Post Cane in 2002, for being the oldest living citizen of Orland. She was a member of the Orland Methodist Church and Castine Grange. Evelyn lived a long, wonderful life, her secret was plenty of sweet foods. She was able to stay in her home for 97 years, thanks to family; special caregivers, Vickie and Lisa Marie, many special neighbors and dear friends. The past year she made many new friends and had many special caregivers at Ross Manor. Evelyn was a wonderful lady with many stories and a sharp mind until the end, and will be greatly missed by all. Evelyn is survived by a grandson, Todd Gray and wife, Karen, of Keene, N.H.; a granddaughter, Heidi Shorey and fianc?, Michael Golding, of Bucksport; a son-in-law, Alvin Gray of Bucksport; two brothers, Floyd Barker of Rochester, N.H., and Wayne Barker and wife, Fern, of Milford; sister-in-law, Avis Barker of Orland, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Neil in 1983; and the light of her life, her daughter, Neilia Gray in 2005; brothers, Elwood Barker and Norris Barker and Stuart Barker; a sister, Barbara Piper; also her parents. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where services will be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Peter Remick officiating.
