BANGOR – Fern Elizabeth (Reed) Bennett, 88, joined her Savior in Glory Jan. 3, 2006, after an extended illness at a local healthcare facility. She was born Dec. 16, 1917, in Rockport, the daughter of Ira and Celia (Ellis) Reed. Fern was a true Proverbs 31 woman, who put the needs of others before her own needs. She was an industrious, hard-working homemaker, who lovingly gave of herself. She was a devoted wife and mother. She married Ralph Bennett in 1937, and lived many years in Corinth, raising their three sons and along with Ralph, caring for the house, farm and gardens. She was an active member of United Baptist Church in Corinth. They retired to Sandy Point in 1978. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Stephen and Laverne of Raeford, N.C., David and Gladys of Sandy Point and Peter and Jane of Holden; four grandchildren, Debbie and her husband, Kevin Locklear, of Raeford, N.C., Karen and her husband, Matthew Brown, of Pennsylvania, Mark Bennett of Pennsylvania and Kathleen Bennett of Bangor; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Ira Reed Jr. of West Virginia; two sisters, Dorothy and her husband, Donald Parker, of Hampden and Phyllis Allen-Park of Hermon; many nieces and nephews. Fern also leaves a special friend, Amanda Higgins of Hermon. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; and one brother, Neil Reed. A private spring graveside service will be held in the Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth. A service of Brookings-Smith, Bangor.
