PRESQUE ISLE – Fernette R. Stephenson, 86, died Thursday evening, May 5, 2005, at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born Jan. 20, 1919, at Chapman, the daughter of Harry A. and Maude (Grendell) Walton. She worked as a stitcher at Converse Rubber Co. in the early 1970’s. Fernette and her husband Robert were active in the Spragueville Grange. She is survived by a son, Clifton Stephenson and his wife, Sylvia, of Presque Isle; two daughters and their husbands, Marilyn M. and Ronald Rivers of Colchester, Vt., Deborah and Howard Hitchcock of Presque Isle; a sister, Kathleen Carmichael of Rochester, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Vicky Stephenson, Randy Stephenson, Brian, Paul, and Keith Rivers, and Jennifer Ouellette; a stepgrandson, Jeffrey Hitchcock; eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 1997 after 62 years of marriage; a daughter, Brenda M. Stephenson; two brothers, Keith and Floyd Walton; two sisters, Crystal Kidney and Dorothy Crory. A private graveside service will be held Monday, May 9, 2005, at the Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
