BANGOR – Frank Edward Bryce, 97, passed away Oct. 16, 2004, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born May 14, 1907, in Napan, New Brunswick, Canada the son of John and Catherine (Cripps) Bryce. Frank worked for many years in Lumber Camps in the Maine North Woods. He was a resident of Bangor and a former member of St. John’s Catholic Church. In 1928, he was employed by the city in Bangor Public Works Department for 14 years and the Bangor Police Department for 24 years. He retired from the Police Department in Dec. 1966, after which he was a Deputy Sheriff for Penobscot County for three years, 1967-1970. In 1987, he moved with his wife of 71 years, Irene, to Winter Haven, Fla. He returned to Bangor in June of 2002, to spend his final days. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and carpentry, building the family cottage at Branch Pond. He had much enjoyment from his family and friends and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Frank will be sadly missed by his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene (Ireland) Bryce of Bangor; daughter, M. Jean Flanagan of Concord, N.H.; son, Robert E. Bryce and daughter-in-law, Cynthia, of Bangor; son, Roger F. Bryce and daughter-in-law, Trudy, of Winter Haven, Fla.; daughter, Sandra B. Morin and son-in-law, Fred, of Wilmington, Del. and Ellsworth; one loving and caring sister, Kathleen M. Bryce of Bangor; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his four brothers, Arthur, Burton, Jack, and Bill; and two sisters, Sally Cassidy, and Nora Coleman. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Tuesday, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor, with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor following the interment.
