CAMDEN – Frank H. Cummings III, of Camden and Venice, Fla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, in Camden. Frank was born September 1937, in East Boothbay, and was the oldest son of Frank H. and Eva (Stevens) Cummings. He was a 1955 graduate of Boothbay Region High School and attended Maine Maritime Academy, MMA, Castine. He graduated from MMA in 1958 and began a career as a merchant marine engineer. In 1963, he married Nancy Gregory of Boothbay Harbor and received his chief engineer license at age 24. He spent 35 years at sea as a marine engineer on a variety of vessels, including chief of the M/V Sealand Resource, a 950′ SL-7 class container ship, capable of carrying 1200 containers at 35 knots. In 1991, Frank retired and spent many years as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Frank was a master Mason and completed the degrees to become a member of the Kora Temple Shrine. He was also a member of the Order of the Quetzalcotl. Recent complications from diabetes resulted in the loss of both of Frank’s legs. His positive attitude throughout his rehabilitation was an inspiration to all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Cummings of Camden and Venice, Fla.; a son, Paul and his wife, Lorna and grandchildren, Amy and Jane, of Camden; a daughter, Patti and her husband, Rob, of Camden; a son, Chris and his wife, Heidi and grandchildren, Madison and Gunnar, of Rockland; a sister, Elioise Blazey of Venice, Fla.; and a brother, John Cummings of Stuart, Fla. He was predeceased by an infant son, Scott. Calling hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
