BROOKLIN – Frazier Kellogg passed away April 28, 2006. He was born April 25, 1927, in New York City, N.Y. Frazier graduated from high school in Pleasantville, N.Y. in 1944 and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He graduated from Goddard College in 1951, with a bachelor’s degree in government and economics then went on Syracuse University where he obtained a Master of Arts in economics. His career as a congressional economist included serving as domestic policy advisor for Senator Frank Church of Pennsylvania; deputy executive secretary for the National Commission on Employment, Technology and Economic Progress; and serving on the staffs of the Senate Labor Committee, Joint Economic Committee and Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts. From 1971-1981, he also served as an administrator in the U.S. Department of Interior working on the nation’s Young Adult and Youth Conservation Corps programs. Throughout his career in Washington and after moving to his beloved Maine, Frazier was a tireless environmental advocate. His name is peppered throughout local, national and international programs on sustainability, forestry practices and global economics. He was a founding member of Sustainable Maine, an advisory committee to Maine Economic Development and Business coordinating council. Some of his other interests included Indian Affairs, member of the steering committee of The Healthy Peninsula project and a founding member of the Brooklin Friends and Neighbors. He once commented that two of his most satisfying triumphs was getting interest in cleaning up the Potomac River and working with the local school bus company to refrain from operating the buses near the school entrance to reduce pollution. Frazier was also an accomplished potter. Most of all, Frazier was a loving friend, partner and parent. In any place he visited, he would chat up the locals and help us all notice the importance of interconnectedness and community. Frazier is survived by his life partner, Kathy Ricker of Brooklin; his three children, Tracey, Nathan and Ryan; and his grandsons, Jeff and Brendan of Washington State. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friend Library, Brooklin, ME 04616, the Blue Hill Heritage Land Trust, Blue Hill, ME 14614 or Hancock County Home Care Hospice, Blue Hill, ME 04515. Plans are being made for a memorial at a later date, at his home at 10 Apple Tree Point Lane, Brooklin. Friends are more than welcome to call or stop by.
