BREWER and BANGOR Gary E. MacDonald, 72, passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2007, with his wife and family at his side at his home. Gary was born in Presque Isle, the son of the late Hadley MacDonald and Velma MacDonald, now of Ocala, Fla., he was the fourth child in a family of six. Affectionately known as “Mouse” by his Aroostook county friends, he graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1953 and led an active childhood playing baseball, meeting friends at the local recreation center and working the potato fields. After marrying his school sweetheart, Marilyn Adams, they had their first child, Marty. Gary and his family moved to Brewer in 1960, where he established a successful local business, CMG Business Machines. The family then grew by two more daughters, Angela and Tracey. Gary and Marilyn celebrated 50 years of marriage this summer among friends and family. Gary was a strong supporter of Brewer basketball and football games and enjoyed the many years spent skiing with family and friends and as a member of Hermon Mountain Ski Patrol. He was blessed with many wonderful friends who loved him for his raucous laugh and a more-the-merrier, welcoming character. He grew to love the game of golf and it became his favorite pastime with friends and family. Survivors include son, Marty and his wife, Kathy MacDonald, and their daughter, Jessica, and her fianc?, Josh Shabtai; daughter, Angela and her husband, Matt Poirier; and daughter, Tracey and her husband, Chris Cleaveland, with their daughter, Sydney and son, Maxwell. Gary is survived by his mother, Velma of Ocala, Fla.; brother, Dana and his wife, Marion, also of Ocala, Fla.; brother, Elwood and his wife, Georgette, of Franklin, N.H.; sisters, Pearl Carmichael, wife of the late Burrell Carmichael, and Maxine Duncan, wife of Richard Duncan, of Presque Isle; and brother, the Rev. Galen “Joe” MacDonald and his wife, Pam, of Sandy Lake, Pa. The family expresses their gratitude to the many friends who have lovingly supported Gary and Marilyn and their family during this difficult time. The excellent care provided by Dr. Adam Lauer and his staff, CancerCare of Maine and Hospice of Eastern Maine has been greatly appreciated. A celebration of life will be held noon Saturday, Dec. 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor with Pastor Carl Schreiber and the Rev. Joe MacDonald officiating. Friends and relatives may call 11 a.m. until time of service also at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
