NEW CASTLE, Ind. – George H. Clapp, 70, passed away Wed-nesday morning, Aug. 22, 2007, at I.U. Medical Center, Indianapolis, after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 11, 1936, in Cadiz, Ind., and was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Mary K. (Barbee) Clapp George retired in 1998 from New Castle Chrysler Corp. after 30 years of service. He had also owned and operated Clapp Upholstery, New Castle, Ind., for many years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and enjoyed collecting and studying fossils and rocks. He was a member of the Gold Prospectors Association of America club. He also enjoyed hiking and walking about three miles a day. George is survived by his wife of 50 years, JoAnne (Parks) Clapp of New Castle Ind.; seven children, Eric and his wife, Dawna Clapp, of Eddington, Marianne and her husband, Rusty Wilhoite, of New Castle, Ind., Lynn and her husband, Bill Gronewold, of Chicago, Russell Clapp of New Castle, Ind., Rhonda and her husband, Tom Brissette, of Hamden, and Billy Clapp of New Castle, Ind.; a grandson, whom they raised, Kasey Clapp of New Castle, Ind.; four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; four brothers, Charles and Grover Clapp, both of New Castle, Ind., Larry and his wife, Betty Clapp, of Mount Summit, Ind., Donald and his wife, Sandy Clapp, of Lewisville, Ind.; three sisters, Jean and her husband, George Spence, of Goshen, Ind., Daisy Norris and Rosemary Bacorn, both of New Castle, Ind.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Jeff Clapp, in 2003; and a brother, Jay Clapp. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Marcum Community Funeral Home, New Castle, Ind., with the Rev. Gary McCutchen officiating. Burial will be after the service at South Mound Cemetery – Westlawn Addition. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
