PALMYRA – George K. Millett, 75, died Aug. 23, 2007, at a Pittsfield hospital after a short illness. He was born July 6, 1932, in Palmyra, the son of Obed F. and Gerda M. (Weeks) Millett. He was educated in Palmyra schools and graduated from Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield, Class of 1950. George married his sweetheart, Constance E. Bragg, July 8, 1955, in East Newport. They settled in Palmyra and lived there most of their lives, except for a short period when they lived in Florida and North Carolina, while he worked for Kings Department Stores. He was employed as a custodian and school bus driver at the Palmyra school in the 1950s. In 1960 until his retirement in 1994, he was employed as store coordinator for Kings Department Stores in the Northeastern and Southeastern United States and all over Maine, all the while he also owned and operated Millett’s Mini Acres, Palmyra. After his retirement, he owned and operated Maine Stream Nesting, Palmyra Village. George was always interested in Palmyra town affairs and looked forward to town meeting every year. For many years he served the town of Palmyra as a selectman. He always liked to travel, especially to California to visit with family. One of his favorite things to do was to build something with his own two hands. He spent many wonderful years at his camps on Whites Pond and Ray’s Point, Milbridge, enjoying the views, the sounds of the water and the quiet enjoyment of fishing. George and Connie attended Calvary Baptist Church, Pittsfield. George is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Constance E. Millett of Palmyra; two sons and their wives, Lyndon C. and JoEllen Millett of Auburn and Scott M. and Carol Millett of Corinna; his daughter and her fianc?, Wendy-Jo Millett and Richard Butler of Palmyra; three grandchildren, Christie, Jessica and Michelle; two great-grandchildren, Alicia and Dontae; two sisters, Eunice Harper and her husband, Louis, of Brookline Conn., and Virginia Apodaca of Prescott, Ariz.; one brother and his wife, Thomas and Jane Millett of Glendora, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Helen Millett of Pittsfield and Ada Bragg of Pittston; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; a son, George K. Millett Jr.; a brother, Joseph S. Millett; and a granddaughter, Jackie Millett. At George’s request, graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Palmyra Village Cemetery with his son, Pastor Scott Millett officiating.
