BUCKSPORT – George W. Dunbar, 82, died Nov. 23, 2004, at a Penobscot nursing facility. He was born July 18, 1922, in North Castine, the son of Duncan and Hattie L. (Snowman) Dunbar. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Champion Paper Co., Bucksport, following many years of service. He enjoyed his horses and was happiest when traveling to equestrian competitions with his daughter, Candy. He was a longtime member of the Maine Horse Association and the United States Equestrian Association. He was also a member of the Hancock Masonic Lodge No. 4 AF & AM, and the Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor. George is survived by his daughter, Candy Dunbar of Bucksport; her mother, Gabrielle Rankin of Bucksport; his sister, Jean Smith of Bucksport; his brother, Bennett Dunbar and his wife, Polly, of Bucksport; nieces and nephews, Loretta Kaye, Patricia Ranzoni, Linda Smith, Ernest Smith, Hazel Hutchinson, Claudia Marshall, and Pamela Peterman; several cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by daughters, Carol, Josephine, and Victoria. A graveside memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Castine Cemetery, Castine, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to the Bangor Humane Society, 693B Mt. Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
