GUILFORD – George W. “Skip” Fairfield III, 60, died March 24, 2006, at a Bangor hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 24, 1945, in Skowhegan, the son of George and Beverly (Albert) Fairfield Jr. He attended Bucksport schools, Maine Maritime Academy and graduated from Southern Illinois University. He served in the U.S. Navy for more than 25 years, retiring as a chief journalist. Skip taught at Greenville High School for the past five years. He is survived by his wife, Cinda (Boynton) Fairfield of Guilford; a son, George W. Fairfield IV and his wife, Samantha, of Hawaii; two daughters, Melissa Fairfield of Hancock and Tammy Light and her husband, Michael, of Corea; a stepdaughter, Melanie Day and her husband, Robert, of St. Albans; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Robin Fairfield and his wife, Marjorie, of California. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Guilford. Burial will be in the Maine Memorial Veteran’s Cemetery in Augusta later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to the George W.
