UNION – Gertrude S. King, 83, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at her home after an extended illness. Born Feb. 6, 1923, in Nashville Plantation, she was one of 13 children to Joseph and Angeline York Boulier. Gertrude was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Portage High School at age 15. She married George Webster King Jr. Sept. 23, 1943, in Belfast. The couple resided there for 10 years, where they welcomed five of their children into the world. The family eventually moved to Union, welcoming two more of their children and where she has resided more than 40 years. For more than four years, Mrs. King was employed at Augusta State Hospital as a psychiatric aide. She later joined the housekeeping staff at the Tradewinds Motor Inn, Rockland. She was employed there for more than 21 years before retiring in 1983. Mrs. King had been an avid reader all her life and a bird watcher in recent years. Her family remembers she particularly enjoyed crossword puzzles that would be considered quite difficult by the average person. She enjoyed being with her family, trips to Portage Lake, visits to her nephew’s house in Freeport and in recent years, a family gathering in Liberty with the Raymond brothers. Mrs. King was predeceased by her husband, George W. King Jr. in 1981; her son, Martin King; her granddaughter, Sandy Peckham; five brothers, Henry, Delbert, Wilfred, David and Raymond Boulier; and two sisters, Rose Boulier and Arlene Boulier. She is survived by her sons, Eugene King and his wife, Jeanne, of Warren, Paul King and his wife, Deborah, of Union and George King and his companion, Joyce Wellington, of Union; her daughters, Doreen Moore and her husband, Lloyd, of Warren, Shirley Wyllie and her husband, David, of Warren and Rose Roy and her husband, Richard, of Appleton; a brother, Joseph Boulier of Bangor; four sisters, Louise Shaw of Mapleton, Bertha McFarlin of Hermon, Rena Boutot of Portage Lake and Isabelle Dubroc and her husband, Eddie, of Houston; her daughter-in-law, Dottie King of Warren, 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends and relatives are invited to visit 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland, where a celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Sawyer officiating. Interment will be after the service at Lakeview Cemetery, Union.
