PRESQUE ISLE – Glenna C. McEachern, 88, passed away peacefully on Jan. 14, 2004, at a Mars Hill healthcare facility. Glenna was born April 26, 1915, in Easton, the daughter of James and Grace (Towle) McKay. She was educated in the Easton School System, graduating from Easton High School. Glenna was an enthusiastic member of the Easton High School girl’s basketball team. Upon graduation, Glenna attended and graduated from the Academy of Beauty School in Medford, Mass. After returning to Presque Isle, she was employed at Hamilton’s Print Shop where she met Robert McEachern, whom she later married in August of 1944. Glenna was also employed at Jensen’s Salon in Presque Isle and for several years at the family grocery store, McEachern’s Market on Main Street. Glenna also enjoyed her many years of employment, until her retirement, at Marston’s Hallmark Store in Presque Isle. She enjoyed basketball, winter sports and camping at her lakeside log cabin at Madawaska Lake with her husband and family. Glenna once cross-country skied at the age of 65. She will be remembered for her loving ways, sweet smiling face and her gentle spirit. Glenna was a lifelong member of the Presque Isle Congregational Church. She belonged to the Presque Isle Widows Group and was active in the Alzheimer’s Support Group in Presque Isle. Surviving her are her son, Alan Robert McEachern of Presque Isle; her sister, Avis (McKay) Pierdominici and her husband, Jay, of Orlando, Fla.; her brother, Carroll “Cal” McKay and his wife, Barbara, of Lady Lake, Fla., and Newburgh; several nieces and nephews. Glenna will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by special friends, Karen Wakem and Lucky of Caribou, Molly Bouchard of Caribou, Darlene Craig of Caribou, M. Lucy Roy of Madawaska Lake, Frances Bishop of Presque Isle and several friends in the Barton Street area. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1990; a daughter, Jane (McEachern) Grounds in 1993; sisters, Marion (McKay) Hersom, Ada (McKay) Driscoll, Opal (McKay) Maggard; and a brother, Merle McKay. A Memorial Service and reception will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Presque Isle Congregational Church with the Rev. Robert Grove-Markwood officiating. A Spring interment will be in the Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to either the Alzheimers Assoc., Maine Chapter, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160-B, Portland, ME 04101 or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Maine Chapter, P.O. Box 8730, Portland, ME 04104. Arrangements are in the care of the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home in Presque Isle.
