BUXTON – Gloria Holland Pliskowski, 82, of Eaton Drive, died early Saturday morning, Sept. 16, 2006, surrounded by her family and her granddaughter, Sonja, at her daughter’s residence. She was born April 24, 1924, in Portland, the daughter of Charles W. and Lottie (Strout) Holland. She attended schools in Portland and Milbridge, and graduated from Portland High School in 1942. She married Henry Pliskowski Jr. in 1943 and moved to Jonesport to work at her in-laws business. The family moved back to Portland in 1957. She attended the Golden School of Beauty Culture. After graduating, she stayed with the school to work as an instructor for several years. Illness caused her to give up hairdressing. She then went on to work for Fairchilds and K-Mart, where she retired in 1986. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and cryptoquips, and making various crafts. She was a member of Rumery Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Jonesport, a lifetime member of the Rochambeau Club and the American Legion Auxiliary, Jonesport. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Henry Pliskowski Jr. in 2002; and a son, Guy Pliskowski in 1990. She is survived by a daughter, Terry Jo Reynolds and her husband, Brownie, of Buxton; a step daughter, Faye Carver of Jonesport; a son, Henry E. Pliskowski of Biddeford; two grandchildren, five great-grand-children, four step grandchildren, six step great-grand-children; and a dear friend, Karen Boucher of Buxton. Gloria’s family personally thanks Jeannine Lamb, Gloria’s Hospice nurse, for all her support and dedication. A memorial service will be announced in a later edition in a couple of weeks.
