BANGOR and WOODLAND, AROOSTOOK COUNTY – Gor-don D. Everett, 90, went home to be with the Lord Feb. 20, 2008. He was born Sept. 22, 1917, in Woodland, the son of Samuel and Hazel (Conroy) Everett. He graduated from Caribou High School, Class of 1936 and attended the University of Maine. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in Japan. Gordon joined the National Guard in 1949 and commanded the 152nd Artillery Battalion, Presque Isle, for several years and later transferred to the reserves and retired with the rank of major. Gordon was co-owner and manager of Crouse-ville General Store and at that time, also served as postmaster. He worked at Loring Air Force Base from 1953 to 1966, as the material facilities officer at Base Supply, retiring with a civil service disability in 1966 due to health problems. He worked part time as a clothier at Kenney’s Clothing Store and volunteered at The Aroostook Medical Center for several years sorting mail. He had been a member of State Road Advent Christian Church, prior to moving to Windham in 1999. Gordon loved hunting, fishing and tying flies in his younger years. He also had a love for his beautiful vegetable gardens and was an avid beekeeper for many years, providing great honey and his fresh vegetables for his family and friends to enjoy. He truly loved to dance and often took advantage of the opportunity to dance at Sunbury Village, Bangor, where they had made their home the past two years. Gordon had many hours of enjoyment watching the Red Sox and the New England Patriots. One of the greatest things he enjoyed at Sunbury were the Bible studies he and Opal were able to attend conducted by Pastor Dave Morrison in the lovely chapel. He liked to play bingo and often won. He always said that he was increasing our inheritance when he won and would smile. Gordon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Opal (Borden) Everett of Bangor; his two daughters and their husbands, Ladene and Dale Monegan of West Suffield, Conn., and Lorraine and Glen Tarr of Holden; his two sons and their wives, Paul Everett and Gloria of The Villages, Fla., and Brent Everett and Diane of Windham; his sister, Leatha Lundgren of Phoenix; his grandchildren, Janine Tremble, Eric Tarr, Derek Monegan, Nicole Keating, Julie Hill and Chad Everett; his great-grand-children, Ellen Opal, Sam and Sophie Hill, Emily and Caleb Tarr, Loren and Lindsey Monegan, Taylor and Brooke Everett, Taylor and Kaileigh Tremble and Megan Keating; and his predeceased grandson, Jason Paul Everett.
