SHERIDAN – Hannah S. Carter, 91, died Nov. 21, 2006, surrounded by family and friends at Southern Acres Boarding Home, Westfield, where she resided for three and one half years. Hannah was born May, 18, 1915, in Woodland, and was the youngest of 10 children born to Herbert and Annie (Orr) Newbegin. Hannah was a lifetime member of the LeBlanc Junkins VFW Auxiliary No. 9699, the American Veterans’ Auxiliary No. 10, Steven L. Porter Auxilary No. 1626 and a member of the Disabled American Veterans’. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth “Betty” Spooner and husband, Ivan, of North Anson, Annie York of Solon, Phyllis Cloukey and husband, Rene Cloukey Sr., of Sheridan, Lillian Clark and husband, Alfred, of Belchertown, Mass., and Philip Lafland and wife, Barbara, also of Belchertown, Mass.; one son-in-law, Vinal Abbott of Sheridan, 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grand-children; and a special friend, Ruth Rodgers of Westfield. She was predeceased by her parents; second husband, Ervin Carter, nine brothers and sisters; one daughter, Maude Abbot, five grandchildren and three sons-in-law. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Advent Christian Church and 10 a.m. until the time of service. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be in the family lot at the Woodland Cemetery, Woodland.
