DIXMONT – Harrison C. Batt, 94, died June 7, 2004, at his Dixmont residence, following a long illness. He was born July 2, 1909, in Dixmont, the son of Joseph S. and Carrie Ella (Allen) Batt. Harrison was educated in Dixmont schools and attended Plymouth High School. He was married to Marion E. Doten Batt, who died July 11, 1985. During World War II, he was a welder at the South Portland Ship Yards. Harrison was a poultry farmer for many years in Dixmont, and also a carpenter and builder. He liked working with steel and always had a project going. He loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He was a storyteller and anytime you met Harrison he would have a story for you. He is survived by his son and his wife, William and Melva Batt of Newport; two brothers, Edward V. Cookson of Springfield and Silver Springs, Fla., Glen and his wife, Lois Cookson, of Acushnet, Mass.; three nieces; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating.
