KENDUSKEAG – Harry Cutliffe Jr., 81, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Jan. 14, 2006, surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Argyle, the fifth child born to Harry Cutliffe and Pearl (Aptt) Cutliffe. He grew up in Old Town attending Old Town schools. Harry was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. In the early years of his life he worked in the construction field, becoming an independent painter before retiring. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Brewer. A member of the American Legion Post No. 0084, a member of Mystic Tie Grange No. 58, Kenduskeag and the Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 4917, Brewer. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed spending hours in his workshop. He loved opera and his little dog, Dusty. Surviving along with his beloved wife of 57 years, Ada M. (Martin) Cutliffe of Kenduskeag; a son, Larry M. Cutliffe Sr. of Seaside, Ore.; two daughters, Linda Cutliffe Hatch and her husband, Bill, of Brewer and Barbara Cutliffe Gray and her husband, Keith, of Newport; grandchildren, Larry M. Cutliffe Jr. of Midland, Texas, Christopher M. Cutliffe of Waldo, Lori Cutliffe Stubbs of Bucksport, Ryan and Scott Hatch of Brewer, Calvin and Kenneth Gray of Newport, April and Kelly Cutliffe of Augusta; one sister, Esther Larby and her husband, Percy, of Winterport; two brothers, Robert Cutliffe of Millinocket and Richard Cutliffe of Litchfield; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and mother, brothers, George Cutliffe, Albert Cutliffe, Raymond Cutliffe; and one sister, June Chambers. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Brookings-Smith Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the First United Methodist Church, 40 South Main St., Brewer with the Rev. Dr. George E. Curtis III and Pastor Carl Schreiber officiating. Please join the family to celebrate Harry’s life immediately following the service at the church. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Andrew C.
