BANGOR – Harvard E. Reynolds, 89, husband of Helen (Ryer) Reynolds died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at a Bangor healthcare facility surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 23, 1916, in Franklin, the son of Clifton and Lillie (Billings) Reynolds. He was a graduate of Bangor High School and the Atlantic Summer School of Business Administration of Dalhoosie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was employed for 12 years with Hincks Coal Company in Bangor. Harvard then went to work for Dead River Company as vice-president and general manager of Dead River L.P. Gas Division from 1946-1956. He then served in various managerial positions throughout the Dead River Company and retired in 1978, after 27 years with the firm. Harvard was a longtime Bangor resident and with his wife, was an active member of the Saturday Nighters for 30 years. He served his community as a supporter of March of Dimes, Community Chest, United Way, Katahdin Area Boys Scouts and the Tarratine Club of Bangor. He was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and many fishing trips to the Miramici Salmon River in New Brunswick. He also loved sailing and as a young adult spent many pleasant hours sailing off Mount Desert Island and later in life sailing from his summer place on Branch Pond in Ellsworth. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Helen of Bangor and Branch Lake in Ellsworth; children, V. Paul Reynolds and wife, Diane, of Hampden, Sandra Black and husband, Averill, of Hampden and Christine Force of Portland. Harvard was especially proud of his eight grandchildren, Paul and Peter Huston, Heather Black-Ward, Christian and Hope Force, Scott and Joshua Reynolds and Suzanne (Reynolds) Pauchey; and stepgrandchildren, Scott and Jeff Black; a sister, Geraldine Huston of Norwich, Vt. Harvard was predeceased by brothers, Donald and Harold Reynolds; the family wishes to express its gratitude to all Bangor area caregivers for their loving care of Harvard during the last few years of his life. A service of remembrance will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with grandson Scott Reynolds officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor following the service.
