EASTON and GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Helen Dane Todd, a longtime resident of Easton and widow of Guy D. Todd, died Oct. 30, 2006, in Gainesville, Fla. Helen was born Dec. 6, 1910, in the house her father had built on the West Ridge Road, Easton, the daughter of George and Bertha (Nicholson) Dane. Later when she married, she and her husband, Guy Todd, lived in the Todd family home on the West Ridge Road for three years. They then bought the William H. Dilling house on the West Ridge Road, which was close to the village, and lived there from 1934 to 1977 when Guy died. That year Helen moved across the road to the West Ridge Manor, where she lived until 2002 when she moved to Gainesville, Fla., to be with her daughter. Helen graduated from Easton High School, Class of 1928, and then attended Houlton Business College before her marriage to Guy D. Todd in 1931. She was a partner with her husband in raising potatoes from 1931 until their retirement in 1969. Helen was a longtime member and an officer in the Easton Grange, Patrons of Husbandry; and the Rebekah Lodge, while these organizations were active in Easton. She was also a member of the Happy Days Senior Citizens Club and the United Methodist Women. She was recognized by the Easton United Methodist Women for her service to the organization throughout the years with the Special Membership Pin. Helen was baptized in the Canterbury, New Brunswick Episcopal Church and was a committed Christian who attended and supported the Easton United Methodist Church for more than 70 years. During the 1980s, Helen enjoyed being a volunteer at the Aroostook Medical Center and in 1988 she was recognized for her 10 years, RSVP, of volunteer work at Gould Memorial Hospital. In addition, Helen enjoyed knitting and knit many baby blankets to give to newborn infants. Helen was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Guy D. Todd; and her son, George D. Todd. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth; and her son-in-law, Lawrance Shaw of Gainesville, Fla. Being one of many cousins in the Nicholson/Dean family, she was the last survivor of her generation. She is remembered by a special second cousin, Perley Dean of Westbrook; and by her many friends in the Easton community. A private graveside ceremony will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Estes Park Cemetery, Easton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Easton United Methodist Church, P.O.
