SPRING HILL, Fla. -Hercules “Herc” Roy, 81, of Spring Hill, Fla., passed away Monday, April 18, 2005, at Kindred Hospital in Tampa, Fla. He was born in Frenchville, and moved to Florida 13 years ago from Maine. He graduated from Madawaska High School, attended University of Ottawa, Canada, and was a graduate of Coin Electrical School of Chicago, Ill. He was Catholic by faith, a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, and was an altar server in 1998 and an usher at the church since 1995. He served with the U.S. Marines in the South Pacific during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and Gold Star. He retired as Postmaster of Frenchville, in 1983, he was manager of the Frenchville Credit Union from 1963-1983, a volunteer fireman from 1947-1972, and fire chief of Frenchville from 1965-1971. He served in the American Legion on post, county, district levels, and held many legion offices on the state level and was state commander from 1988-89. He served on many national committees and received numerous awards. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV, Marine Corps League, Purple Heart Association, 40 & 8 (honorary group of the American Legion), and a charter member of the National World War II Memorial. He enjoyed woodworking and beermaking and was an avid fisherman and golfer. Herc was predeceased by his parents, Belone and Mary Roy; his first wife, Odette; daughter, Letitia; four brothers, Albenie, Alphee, Jean Paul, and Albert; and three sisters, Anne Marie, Priscilla, and Lucille. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Spring Hill, Fla.; three sons, Michael and his wife, Sharon, of Silverton, Ore., Robert W. and his wife, Peggy, of Covington, Wash., and Patrick and his wife, Carol, of Hampden; one daughter, Theresa and her husband, George Leinbaugh, of Milbridge; four granddaughters, Clara and her husband, Loren Eaton, of Ft. Lauderdale, Laura of Wheaton, Ill., Amanda Leinbaugh of Bath, and Victoria of Hampden; one grandson, John Leinbaugh of Milbridge; three sisters, Almida Dumais of East Hartford, Conn., Ursula Marcotte of Lewiston, and Marie Mae Daigle of Hebron, Conn.; and one brother, Oscar, of Augusta. Friends will be received 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2005, at the Seven Hills Chapel of Brewer & Sons Funeral Homes in Florida. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Father Francis Oman celebrant. A committal service with full military honors provided by the Kennebec County Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt.
