GOULDSBORO – Ivan L. Gilpatrick, 61, died peacefully at dawn, June 17, 2006, surround-ed by his family at his home, in Gouldsboro, after a battle with kidney cancer. He was born May 7, 1945, in Lubec, the son of the late Arthur L. Gilpatrick and Christine (McCarty) Gilpatrick of Whiting. Ivan attended the Whiting Village School and Washington Academy. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Maine at Machias and his master’s degree in education and C.A.S. in administration from the University of Maine at Orono. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years as a communications technician, second class. Throughout his career, Ivan worked in various schools both as a teacher and administrator. He enjoyed working with his fellow teachers, administrators and other school personnel and developed many lasting friendships over the years. At the time of his retirement in 1999, he had helped educate hundreds of local schoolchildren. After retiring from his job as an educator, he spent a year building houses with a former student and later sold real estate. He passionately pursued a variety of hobbies over the years. His interests included music, woodworking, reading, sailing, photography, history, genealogy and talking. Those who knew him will remember his quick wit, wonderful sense of humor and his vast knowledge of history. Family members include his wife of 38 years, Katherine (Murray) Gilpatrick; a daughter, Kelly Ramlal and her husband, Dr. Bheshem Ramlal, of D’Abadie, Trinidad; a son, Aaron Gilpatrick of Gouldsboro; a sister, Jean Martin and her husband, Arlan “Woody” Martin, of Eddington; two cousins, Judy Green of Whiting and Mary Ann Roley of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews, Jodi Martin, Ryan Martin, Emily Murray, Sarah Murray and Robert Murray. Friends and relatives are invited to memorial visiting hours 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 23, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth.
