BETHLEHEM, Conn. – James E. Cleary, 83, of Nonnewaug Road, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at his home. He was the husband of the late Doris (McIver) Cleary. Mr. Cleary was born March 14, 1924, in Houlton, son of the late James and Lena (Cyr) Cleary. He lived in Bethlehem, Conn., for many years. He was a World War II veteran and retired from the New York, New Haven, Hartford Railroad. Mr. Cleary was a member of VFW No. 5157, Watertown, Conn. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and doing crossword puzzles. He leaves two sons, Michael Cleary of Waterbury, Conn., and Daniel Cleary of Bethlehem, Conn.; three daughters, Virginia Cleary of Richmond, Mass.; Catherine Gay of Middlebury, Conn., and Margaret Verrastro of Bethlehem, Conn.; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Funeral services and burial are private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown, Conn., is in charge of the arrangements.
