CORINTH and ARIZONA James “Jimmy” R. Libby Jr., 56, died unexpectedly April 27, 2008, in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 19, 1951, in Caribou, the son of Marilyn A. (Randall) Hill and James R. Libby Sr. Jimmy enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1970 to 1973. After his service to his country, he began a career in welding at Bath Iron Works. He touched the lives of so many people as a Union traveler throughout the U.S. Jimmy joined the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters UA Local No. 716 in 1982. He took great pride as a welder; whether from Wiscasset to Hinckley to Seabrook to Palo Verde, or from the top of a frosted steel girder in the Midwest, Jimmy’s craft was of excellent quality. And most recently, he enjoyed the craft of clean-room instrumentation at Intel. In Las Vegas, Jimmy ended his journey as he had begun; as a traveler in the trade he loved so much. Many will remember from the time Jimmy was very young, he loved to fish and throughout the years became an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. Jimmy was a dearly loved, son, brother, uncle and friend, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his mother and his father, he is survived by his stepfather, Everett Hill of Corinth; a brother, Daryl Libby and wife, Diana, of California; three sisters, Sandra Hill and Dusty Rhodes of Scarborough, Linda Richards and husband, Roger, of Bradford and Lori Townsend and husband, Gillie, of Corinth; nieces and nephews, Gilly Jr. and wife, Kristany, Shaun and wife, Desiree, Renee and husband, Greg, Jason and Darren; and loved ones in Arizona, Kyle, Patty and Sally. He had many dear friends that he worked with throughout the U.S. A service of remembrance will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Dalton Dunfee officiating. Gifts in his memory may be made to James R. Libby Jr. Welding Scholarship Fund, United Technologies Center, 200 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401.
